Sounds like Dan has some ideas for some topics. Using ActiveResource when your data source is a web API rather than a database... would be a nice topic somewhere between the realm of beginner and advanced.

This group is welcome to use the conference room at Draker Laboratories in Burlington ( http://drakerlabs.com ), if some would prefer to meet in-person, and conference in others.

I would also be interested in meeting. I have been developing php/drupal for about a year and have just been looking into RoR. I wouldn't have much to offer (except perhaps a space in Burlington to hold the meeting?)

I am new to Ruby and Rails, but it seems like a great breath of fresh air after many years of Java(EE) programming. I am definitely interested in attending regular meetings. As for conferencing solutions, I was working on setting up a VoIP conferencing server for the VAGUE group last spring. Given a little time, I could do the same here. The benefit is that people could connect from land lines/cell phones, in the case where broadband isn't an option for Skype, etc. Just a thought. Looking forward to meeting all of you.

Thinking about topics, I think it is a good idea to have one advanced topic and one beginner topic per meeting. This way it is interesting to broader audience.

Hi! Seems that I should throw in my two cents here since Sergei mentioned my name earlier.

I've been doing Rails development for the past 3 years after doing PHP development since 2001 after doing Perl web sites since 1994 (my Perl experience goes back to 1987 but there was no web then!)

I've done some serious large scale Rails portals over the past few years. I'm happy to talk about what is involved in a wide variety of Rails areas that apply to web portals and similar sites. Key topic areas include:

o Doing Internationalization (I18N) with various versions of Rails. What works well, what stinks, what to avoid.

o Using ActiveResource when your data source is a web API rather than a database.

o Implementing a pure Rails single-sign-on solution for an enterprise.

o Managing web site accounts securely.

o Making a Rails CLI utility. Yes, I said Rails rather than Ruby.

There's probably more that I could come up with but I think that these are the more interesting topics.

I've had good luck with using Yugma for web conferencing (it runs on Windows, Macs, and Linux systems so that everyone can participate.) Let's figure out how to work the technical logistics and get things going!

I've developed a couple more RoR applications since our last meeting when I spoke about deployment. I'd plan on attending another meeting.

What would be the content for the meeting? Does someone have an idea of what they would like to see presented?

Sorry I missed the presentation, sounds like it went well!

I would most definitely be interested in getting the group started again and will pass the word around.

Maybe we should contact the PHP group and put out the word there?

Count me as an active Rails developer in the Burlington area who would attend.

I'd be willing to help out with organizing or anything else..
